King Roger (Król Roger), a little known work by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski headlines the Edinburgh International Festival's Opera programme this summer. The opera directed by Mariusz Treliński, originally staged by Opera Wrocławska will be performed this coming Monday (August 25) and Wednesday (August 27) by the Mariinsky Opera Company, with Valery Gergiev as conductor. >>

ANNA GERMAN – POLISH RADIO S.A. The new release by the “Polish Radio Archives” presents Anna German. The double cd features her radio recordings from 1961 to 1978. This intrinsically captivating reminiscence album of enchanting simple melodies reveals German’s never fully used potential. Her vocal abilities greatly surpassed the traditional song standard which can be now heard in “Człowieczy los” (“Human Fate”), “Prośba do Charona” (“A Request to Charon”),“Uspokojenie” (“Calming”), “Pomimo lat pogardy” (“Despite the Years of Contempt”). >>
This year’s edition of the Globaltica World Culture Festival will take place July 25-27 in Gdynia Orłowo Kolbiki Park featuring Sinead O’Connor, Natasha Atlas, the Leningrad and Seun Kuti – the son of Fela Kuti, the icon of Nigerian jazz. >>
This year’s edition of the famous rock music Jarocin Festival will kick off on July 18. The event will be opened by Świat Rytmu– a band of four young drummers playing African and Cuban drums, rubbish bins and bottles. Świat Rytmu will perform six times at the start and close of each day. The three-day festival taking place at a stadium at Maratońska Street in Jarocin will feature such artists as: Asian Dub Foundation, Peter Murphy, Kult, Katarzyna Nosowska, and Wojciech Waglewski & Fisz & Emade.  >>
