The Warsaw Philharmonic Choir, one of the most prominent vocal ensembles in Poland, will soon be celebrating 60 years of its existence – so many concerts, so many recordings...
Our choir launched its professional activity in 1953 under Zbigniew Soja. The subsequent choirmasters were Roman Kuklewicz, Józef Bok, and Antoni Szaliński. I have been the Director of the
Choir since 1978. Indeed, there’s been a great many concerts, programmes, and recordings. We are a professional ensemble, nearly all of the members having completed higher musical education.
A feast of theatrical magic

Staged by opera houses worldwide, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” is one of the composer’s best-known works. On November 25, 2011 this beautiful two-act ballet adapted from a children’s story by E.T.A. Hoffmann will open in a new staging at Warsaw’s National Opera House as part of the cultural programme accompanying Poland’s ongoing EU presidency.

Musical madness with titans
La Folle Journée de Varsovie “Les Titans” will run from 29 September till 2 October. Four festival days will be filled by 70 concerts featuring over 400 prominent artists from around the world.
Polish city of Wrocław is the 2016 European Capital of Culture
Wrocław was nominated the 2016 European Capital of Culture. Owing to this title the city has the chance to promote Polish culture in Europe, “Gazeta Wyborcza” notes.
“Poland won, and the best sign of quality in Poland is culture” said Bogdan Zdrojewski, Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage during the announcement ceremony. “Poland won because all the cities which prepared their presentations did it on a very high level” he added.
Great jazz in a charming place
The 17th International Outdoor Festival “Jazz in the Old Town” will be launched in Warsaw on July 2. Traditionally it will last for 2 months bringing jazz concerts to the Old Town Square on every Saturday of July and August.

The 20th edition of the National Competition of Wines, Meads and Wine Products organized by the Polish Wine and Mead Council took place in Warsaw. The honorary patronage over the event was taken by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marek Sawicki. It was hosted by Centrum Wina – the leading Polish importer and distributor of premium wines.
>>40 years of Lato z Radiem
This year the popular summer programme of the 1 Programme of the Polish Radio Lato z Radiem (Summer with the radio) turns 40. This occasion will be marked on June 11 at the National Festival of Polish Song by a special concert organized in cooperation with the Polish TV. Every Saturday a concert of the Lato z Radiem summer tour will take place.
>>Golden times of the Commonwealth
The exhibition “Golden times of the Commonwealth of Poland. Artistic treasures and collections” was inaugurated on June 1 in the Royal Castle in Madrid. This is one of the highlights of the International Cultural Programme of the Polish presidency of the EU coordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The exhibit is on till 4 September.
