• Correction After A Long Rise - Monthly summary - 6.2009

June was a month with two faces on the WSE (and other stock markets around the world). The indices were rising in the first half of the month but ran into trouble in the latter half. There were probably different reasons why investors were selling stock, but the main reason seems obvious: the markets had been growing much too fast in the past months. Since oil and copper prices nearly doubled within four months while indices rose by 40–100 percent (WIG20 up by 65 percent) only because investors were hoping for the economy to improve (no one knows how much) by the end of the year, a correction was inevitable.

Asbestos for railways

Poland has until 2032 to complete its asbestos-removal programme and will receive no EU financing for the task. What the EU may help finance, though, is an innovative plan to use asbestos as a reinforcement for railway trackbeds. The Marbet-Wil company in Bielsko-Biała (Marbet-Wil Sp. z o.o) has already installed the technology needed for the project.

The longest cross-border line is the 1,631-kilometre route from Warsaw to Innsbruck in Austria serviced by the express train Jan Kiepura”, PKP Intercity President Krzysztof Celiński tells Polish Market’s Jerzy Bojanowicz.
