Poland has until 2032 to complete its asbestos-removal programme and will receive no EU financing for the task. What the EU may help finance, though, is an innovative plan to use asbestos as a reinforcement for railway trackbeds. The Marbet-Wil company in Bielsko-Biała (Marbet-Wil Sp. z o.o) has already installed the technology needed for the project.

Poland experienced the first wave of electronic security systems in the decade from 1995 to 2005 when thousands of such systems were installed across the country. We took a special liking to video surveillance. Video cameras started to guard our car parks, houses, housing estates, shopping centres, workplaces, stadiums, petrol stations, railways stations, airports, whole towns and cities and – after a longer public discussion – also schools and kindergartens. But are we feeling safer?

Few people remember that the YouTube service, which has gained record popularity, was created in February 2005 as a website containing videos featuring a cat of its founder. Within the following several months the world saw the emergence of one hundred million or more filmmakers: amateurs, reporters and followers of Spielberg. On YouTube and its clones, one can watch countless videos on any topic and from every corner of the globe. This is thanks to the invention of digital mini cameras, including those incorporated into mobile phones.

The Andrzej Soltan Institute for Nuclear Studies IPJ is a state owned Laboratory located in Świerk 30 km east from Warsaw. It carries out pure and applied research on subatomic physics and technology. It also produces a specialized equipment for various applications (notably for medicine and environmental protection).

Innovative industrial research centre

The Regional Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer Ltd. (Świętokrzyskie Centrum Innowacji i Transferu Technologii Sp. z o. o., RCITT) in Kielce was founded on January 11, 2002 as a non-profit organization. The Centre is a joint Project by the Świętokrzyskie Provincial Government, the authorities of Kielce, and the Kielce University of Technology.
