Dynamic and modern Elbląg
The heart of Elbląg lies in the Old Town rebuilt with loving care. Filled with the hanseatic spirit of the past, it features a number of landmarks, as well as captivating and unique archeological sites. Within easy reach are major tourist attractions. Europe’s unique Elbląg Canal features a series of slipways and a system of tracks between lakes allowing pleasure boats to negotiate the 100 metre difference in water levels. The imposing stronghold of the Teutonic Knights in Malbork is another must-see destination.
Investment lots for business and housing
Elbląg is not just a great place for tourists. It is also perfect for investors. With an eye to them one of the most attractive investment offers in northern Poland is being prepared. The Elbląg Technological Park and a major housing estate are being developed on the former military range of Modrzewina. It has an area of some 400 hectares. In the future the estate will be inhabited by some 15,000 people. The Elbląg Technological Park encompasses more than 100 hectares, 67.7 hectares of which is set aside for direct manufacturing and service investments. The park borders on the Elbląg highlands, featuring fine scenery. The project is being developed in line with ecological concerns. 28 hectares of the park have been designated as a Special Economic Zone, which makes it even more attractive in investment terms. Investing entrepreneurs are guaranteed income tax rebates reaching 50,60 and even 70 per cent, depending on company size. The Elbląg Technological Park is divided into six sub-parks linked by means of terraces descending down a river embankment.
UE funding for investment
The highest terrace, which will play the role of a central sub-park with an area of nearly 5 hectares, will be the site of the Business, Development and Innovation Centre. It will provide comprehensive services to investors within the entire park. The range of services will include accounting, transport, banking and insurance. Research institutes will also operate there. Elbląg has applied for EU funding as part of the operational programme for the development of eastern Poland.
The Elbląg Technological Park is also designed to include a 30 hectare golf course to provide a meeting place for businessmen working within the park. The city is currently gearing up to hold the first tenders for investment lots within the park. It is estimated that the complex will create 3,000 jobs.
Adjusting the labour and education market
One of Elbląg’s strengths is access to its highly qualified work force. Some 8,000 young people study at local universities. The State Higher School of Vocational Education in Elbląg trains IT specialists. Its young graduates are encouraged to seek jobs at the Elblag Incubator of Modern IT Technologies. In the future they will augment the cadres of the Elblag Technological Park. Vocational education institutions closely follow trends on the local employment market and respond to them in a flexible manner. Class for carpenters, builders and welders are held at a number of schools.
Excellent road, rail and water links
Another of Elblag’s strengths is the well developed local road network. It is just one hour by car to the major Baltic Sea port cities of Gdańsk and Gdynia. The road leading up to the border of the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad is being modernised. In the near future thousands of motor cars, lorries and buses will be able to speed down this road toward Kaliningrad each day. One of Poland’s most modern junctions allows easy access to Elblag by car. The city also boasts a port capable of receiving sea-going vessels via a network of rivers and canals leading out to the Baltic via the Vistula Lagoon. A railway line links Elblag with major Polish cities and with the Kaliningrad region.
The people factor
Elbląg Mayor Henryk Słonina says “I’d like to invite you to Elblag, a safe, dynamic city full of special charm. Most importantly, the city is friendly toward its inhabitants, visitors and investors. Come and visit Elbląg. We’ll make sure it stays in your hearts.”
