Not only electricity

2008-06-10
“PKP Energetyka is a member of PKP Group. Our core business is to supply electricity to other companies of the Group, particularly electricity for traction purposes, i.e. needed to power electric traction vehicles. The licenses for electricity sales, transmission and distribution the company received at the start of its operations make it possible for PKP Energetyka to attract customers from outside the railway sector,” says Tadeusz Skobel, President of PKP Energetyka Sp. z o.o.
REKLAMA

Our company is one of the largest electricity buyers. To meet its own and its customers’ needs, the company buys around 3.4TWh of electricity annually, which accounts for more than 3% of total domestic consumption. Some 35% of this volume is purchased under Third Party Access (TPA) rules. Following the full opening of the electricity market on July 1, 2007 the company has been working intensively to attract clients, including retail ones, who have decided to change electricity suppliers. For this purpose, we have launched our largest promotional and image campaign so far. Our logo and the slogan “Good Energy” has appeared on billboards in Poland’s largest cities and on buildings located along the main railway lines. We want to be perceived by our existing and prospective clients as a large and well-organised company one can trust.
Electrical engineering services are another area of our activity. Also in this case our main customers are members of PKP Group. We provide them mainly maintenance services. Recently, however, we have been involved in major investment projects as PKP PLK, the operator of Polish railway lines, has acquired considerable funding from the European Union. We are taking part in large contracts, as consortium leaders or partners, for the thorough modernisation of selected railway line sections. We have a vast and specialist technical potential throughout Poland and highly-skilled staff. This enables us to carry out works in several locations at the same time. A majority of these contracts are implemented in the “design and build system.” It puts an obligation on the contractor to receive all permits required, including a construction permit, and prepare a comprehensive technical documentation. At present, owing to the limited potential of specialised design offices, this may be one of the major reasons behind delays in the investment process. In order to fully utilise their equipment and human resources, individual branches of our company also take part in local tenders for non-railway projects. They are awarded contracts in more than 50% of these tenders. These effects have been achieved thanks to the great commitment on the part of all employees of PKP Energetyka. And I think the employees are this company’s largest asset.
