Ecology – a Lotos priority
The current “Programme 10+” investment scheme underway at Lotos foresees the installation of even more advanced systems to further reduce the company’s (especially its refinieries’) impact on the environment. Thanks to “Programme 10+” Lotos will be able to raise its production on non-sulphur fuels meeting the EU’s strict ecological norms.
Grupa Lotos has a very broadscale approach to environmental care. Attention is paid to air and water quality, all interference in the terrain around the company is also environment-friendly. Constant monitoring allows Lotos’ management to react quickly to impending threats and launch preventive measures. In many areas Lotos not only fully meets but also considerably exceeds binding environmental norms. A case in point is a current sewerage plant modernization scheme where pollution has been reduced to considerably below required levels. Grupa Lotos’ policy is also to preserve environmental norms wherever its products are used. Lotos was the first in Poland to use improving additives in gasoline and diesel fuels. These additives help balance fuel combustion with engine performance, thus considerably reducing fume emissions to the atmosphere. Today Lotos produces only high-tech unleaded fuels. A 2000-opened hydrocracking plant helped bring sulphur content in Lotos diesel fuels down below EU norms.
The key principles of Grupa Lotos’ corporate social responsibility policy have become flagship values for the company. This strategy bases on three pillars: human capital, environmental care and energy security. Grupa Lotos is very committed to its position as a socially-, nationally- and environmentally responsible market operator and provider of energy safety. With ecological safety and sustainable development as its goals, Grupa Lotos will continue its investments in modern, environment-friendly technology in a bid for a better (and cleaner) future.
