Saragossa full of colour and culture
One of the events celebrating the Polish National Day was a symphonic concert by the Sinfonietta Cracovia under Robert Kabara. The orchestra performed stunning Polish pieces including: “A Serenade for the String Orchestra” by Mieczysław Karłowicz, by “Three Pieces in Olden Style” Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and “Orawa” by Wojciech Kilar. The air vibrated also with Polish pre-war tangos in new arrangements inspired by the works of the master of the tango – Astor Piazzolla. The gala concert featured Urszula Dudziak, versatile jazz vocalist and performer of the cult internet hit craze “Papaya Dance”, Leszek Możdżer, outstanding pianist who just a day earlier led musical dialogues and improvised on stage with Bobby McFerrin at the Summer Jazz Days Festival in Warsaw. Polish literary song was brought to audiences in Saragossa by Raz Dwa Trzy – one of the most popular bands performing songs by Agnieszka Osiecka and Wojciech Młynarski, and Grzegorz Turnau – composer, pianist and singer who carries on the tradition of Cracovian chancon established i.e. by the legendary “Piwnica Pod Baranami” cabaret.
Polish folk music was presented in a modern and youthful manner by the Warsaw Village Band which scored an international success winning the prestigious BBC 3 Radio World Music Award in 2004 in the Newcomer category.
