WSE: The Largest Exchange in the CEE and SEE Region
Capitalisation
By capitalisation, the Warsaw Stock Exchange is the largest exchange in the region. WSE capitalisation is greater than the value of companies listed on Wiener Boerse: it was over EUR 105 billion at the end of September ’08 (EUR 85 billion for Wiener Boerse).
The difference in capitalisation between Vienna and Warsaw has been systematically decreasing during the past couple of years. At the end of 2005, Wiener Boerse capitalisation was more than EUR 27 billion greater than WSE capitalisation. At the beginning of this year, the gap shrank to EUR 12 billion and in July the value of companies listed in Warsaw exceeded that of Vienna by EUR 9 billion.
At present, the value of companies listed in Warsaw is EUR 20 billion greater. This is the capitalisation of domestic companies on both markets. At the end of September 2008, capitalisation of the WSE equity market exceeded the capitalisation of the Athens Exchange.
