PTB Nickel – flexible and customer-friendly
More than 78,000 m2 of housing units, 45,000 m2 under construction, new exciting investments with a floorage of 300 000 m2 are just some of the achievements of PTB Nickel, one of the leading developers in the mid-western city of Poznań. Company President Marian Nickel talks to POLISH MARKET about the market situation and his firm’s plans.
Q: At the BCC gala you received a golden Polish Business Leader statuette. PTB Nickel has also received other awards. What is the secret of your company’s success?
A: PTB Nickel owes much of its success to flexibility. We try to keep abreast of the market, especially client needs, and are able to respond quickly to them. This has always been one of our plus points.
Most important for me personally is fair play, because honesty and reliability make for a strong market position. Our success is also an incentive for me to seek new directions, to which I also try to motivate our staff. I’m an eternal optimist who believes his dreams will come true and pursues them stubbornly That’s why my message to everyone is – be brave, creative and industrious, because that could well lay the ground for your own success.
Q: Currently PTB Nickel is building objects whose joint floorage will be more than half as big as all projects you completed over the past decade. How is this possible?
A: Over the years we’ve developed into a strong and reliable partner. We’re a sizeable family business employing a more than 200-strong, experienced and highly-skilled staff. We run our own design office and aluminium carpentry section. We also continuously invest in new equipment to stay as self-reliant as possible. Thanks to this we can handle really difficult projects and our portfolio is bigger with every year. Currently we’re building about 39, 000 m2 of housing space and 4 ha of industrial development. So as you can see, we’re not afraid of new challenges nor new ideas, and we are always moving forward.
Q: Which would you call your flagship projects?
A: Of those we’ve completed I can mention a very modern building for the company Apcon (today ITELLIGENCE). This was a very good project with an extremely short deadline and very rigorous technical requirements. We completed it in a record 5 months, the result being one of Poland’s most intelligent buildings.
I would also mention a renovation project for Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy (BZWBK), especially the modernizqation of their branch on Wolności Square in Poznań. We refurbished the main operations hall, offices, and some historical elements.
A very recent undertaking was the Octopus Aquapark in Suchy Las. Today it is one of the largest and most modern water-sport objects in the Poznan area, offering a 25-metre pool, water massage, leisure space, air geysers, water slides, a childrens’ pool, a special pool for learners, a Jacuzzi and a sauna.
Mentionsworthy among our future projects is the Europoles Steel Mast Plant in Konin, which will include a production hall, an office building and an artificial lake The architecture will be very innovative and based on state-of-the-art solutions.
Q: What, if anything, are you planning to undertake against the much-heralded crisis in the construction branch?
A: By all indications construction industry will go down, but it won’t stop altogether. The construction branch is in the fortunate situation that it senses all good market movements early and reacts to negative trends relatively late. That’s why we don’t really feel the crisis all that much yet. However, we must be prepared for a stagnation period and here I am mostly thinking about cost-cutting, organization, financial discipline, and more incentive for employees.
I am sure that if we carry this through properly we’ll be able to brave the crisis well together with the whole construction branch.
