Poznań's investment advantages

Poznań, the capital of Wielkopolska region, is one of the oldest and biggest Polish cities. It occupies an area of 262 km2; it has a population of 565,000 inhabitants. Most of the Poznań inhabitants (67%) are at an economically active age.

It is a huge academic and scientific centre which holds a leading position in Poland. There 25 higher education establishments in the city (eight of them are state-owned), which educate nearly 140,000 students each year. The scientific activity of the universities is supplemented by nearly 50 research and development centres employing 3,000 people.

The city provides excellent opportunities for recreation, sports, participation in cultural events and enjoyment of the delicacies of local and international cuisine.

Over 90,000 economic entities operate in Poznań and the number of entities with foreign capital is one of the highest in Poland. For years the unemployment rate in Poznań has been one of the lowest throughout the country. The city is one of the main centres of foreign investment. Since 1990 foreign investors have invested here USD 5.1 billion. Major investment directions include industry, services, trade, office real estate. Over 70% of the foreign capital comes from Germany, the United Kingdom, USA, France and Japan, and the biggest investors are Volkswagen, GlaxoSmithKline, Bridgestone, Allied Irish Bank, Wrigley, SABMiller, Dalkia Group, Beiersdorf, Exide, Kronospan Holding, Kimball Electronics Group and Franklin Templeton. Poznań is also a host to centres of IT, design, and financial-and-accounting services of well-known companies like Microsoft, Carlsberg, MAN, Duni, Bertelsmann, GlaxoSmithKline and Kimball Electronics.

The city of Poznań attracts new investments and supports already operating entrepreneurs. This cooperation is coordinated by one of the investment pilots or advisors from the Investor Relations Department. They support businesses which invest at least EUR 5 million or create at least 50 work places.

The priority investment sectors for Poznań are: technologically-advanced production, centres for joint services, research and development, conference and exhibition activities, and recreation and entertainment infrastructure.

Poznań's investment advantages include good transport infrastructure, receptive local market, highly-developed business services, huge resources of qualified employees, social and political climate conducive to entrepreneurship, and an interesting cultural and recreation offer.

For many years Poznań has been increasing the quantity of A-class office space. According to data from the Knight Frank company, there is over 70,000 m2 A-class office space available in the city. In the nearest future it will be increased by 30,000 m2. Poznań also has over 56,000 m2 of B- and B+ class office space.

After Upper Silesia and Central Poland, Poznań is the second warehouse surface market in terms of supply volume in the country. The warehouse resources of Wielkopolska's capital are currently estimated at over 400,000 m2. The Poznań market is characterised by big growth dynamics. Within a year the supply of modern warehouse surfaces increased by 80%. It is expected that the increased supply will keep up in the Poznań area also in the years to come. Currently there is 88,000 m2 under construction, and the next 950,000 m2 is at the planning stage.
