Medical University of Bialystok is a public school founded in 1950. Its seat is in the former Branicki Palace, a historic building from the 18th century, the most magnificent and precious historic building in Bialystok. It is located right in the city centre and surrounded by the Palace garden and a vast park. It has a conveniently based campus, comprised of buildings housing the departments of basic medical sciences, clinical hospitals, two dormitories as well as sports and recreation facilities.
The University’s qualified and experienced academic staff guarantee a high level of theoretical and practical education, delivered in well equipped lecture and seminar halls. At present, the overall number of students at the University, studying both in Polish and in English amounts to about 4000.
The University is divided into 3 sections: Faculty of Medicine with the Division of Dentistry and Division of Medical Education in English, Faculty of Pharmacy with the Division of Laboratory Medicine, and Faculty of Health Sciences. Academic programme is adapted to match current trends in healthcare fields as well as in the job market.
The Division of Medical Education in English was established in 2004. Young people from foreign countries who wish to study medicine abroad choose Bialystok more and more often. The reasons they give for their choice are the prestige of the University and its well established position in the world. The University is open towards the challenges of modern times. It promotes student friendly atmosphere and aims at the overall development of its students, while encouraging independent thinking and studying. It guarantees the kind of teaching that is based on proven methods and didactic programmes as well as high standards of education. English Division students are offered optimal working and study conditions that promote better learning. Each academic year starts with meticulous preparations of the courses. Respective department authorities are responsible for selecting academic staff with the best knowledge of English, as well as for their training and choosing appropriate literature in English.
At the Medical University of Bialystok research activity takes top priority. Every year academic staff organise nearly 500 research projects and the amount of published research work is constantly growing. That has led the Faculty of Medicine with the Division of Dentistry and Division of Medical Education in English to reach the 1st place, and the Faculty of Pharmacy with the Division of Laboratory Medicine to reach the 4th place in a ranking assessment of homogenous faculties conducted by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The University strives to provide its research staff with the most modern infrastructure and equipment and so it created, among other establishments, European Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Analysis, European Pharmacy Centre and Experimental Medicine Centre. The Medical University of Bialystok is also a publisher of Advances in Medical Sciences, Folia Histochemica at Cytobiologica and Medyk Białostocki.
