Experience and creativity
Experience
APA KA Kuryłowicz & Associates Architecture Studio has existed since 1990 but its roots reach back to the 1980s. Today the firm boasts an almost 100-strong international team of specialists employed in offices in Warsaw and Wrocław. APA KA projects are being implemented in Poland, Ukraine and Russia. The studio’s experience is evidenced in the many Polish and foreign prizes it has been awarded as well as publications describing its attainments in leading Polish and foreign architecture periodicals.
The team
The several groups operating within the company are headed by eminent specialists with long-standing experience in designing and managing investments in Poland and abroad. They address great attention to the professional implementation of projects by a group of architects who have graduated from leading Polish and foreign colleges.
Comprehensive approach
APA KA’s almost 20 years experience constitutes a review of the most important implemented projects in Polish architecture since 1990. The Studio has many prestigious successes to be proud of as well as customers whom it successfully assisted in creating substantial investments. The company prepares projects, takes care of all required administrative and technical formalities, supervises the work of subcontractors, assumes responsibility to receive consent for the right of usage of a building. The entire process proceeds with an eye on the investment budget and detailed control of its costs of implementation.
Specialisation
The versatile character of the projects implemented down the years of the Studio’s work constitutes invaluable experience allowing the company to tackle investments of a widely diverse character. The team has acquired a fundamental knowledge of the specifics, standards and requirements posed by projects of various scale and designation.
· APA KA tackles projects of prestigious public utility buildings: banks, office buildings, business headquarters and public institutions. That group includes several well known offices – the Focus Filtrowa building, LOT airlines head office, Okęcie Park office complex and a group of scientific buildings for the University of Warsaw.
· Another area in which the company operates is residential investments. The Studio designed several of the largest and most outstanding residential estates in recent years – Eko Park (20ha), Marina Mokotów (30ha), the “Park of Light” and Belogrodka Complex in Ukraine (120ha). APA KA has also constructed several residential towers, apartment buildings and residences.
· Yet another sector where the Studio has specialised is shopping outlets, both large-space centres (Lublin Plaza – 110,000 sqm) and high-class department stores (Wolf Bracka – 25,000 sqm).
· APA KA is also active in designing technologically advanced industrial and infrastructure projects. These include construction of factories in Poland and Russia for Avon Cosmetics, the Ford assembly plant in Płońsk, underground railway station in Warsaw and the Modlin and Kielce regional airports.
Supreme performance standards
The procedures in force in APA KA are subject to constant verification and streamlining. Part of the investments has been implemented since 2008 according to Evidence Based Design (EBD) principles – a method of designing which takes into account knowledge of the natural environment such as psychology and sociology. The outcome is that the Studio drafts projects with full consideration for the real requirements of a building’s end-users.
APA KA’s enviable market rating has resulted in the company being frequently selected by foreign designing offices as joint author of a project or a partner in its implementation in Poland.
Practical expression of such experience is evidenced in the joint designing of the two most prestigious public investments in Warsaw at present – Contemporary Art Museum (Christian Kerez) and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (Landelma & Mahlamaki Architects). The Studio also participates in several large-scale projects throughout Poland, in conjunction with foreign partners. The trust expressed by architects throughout the entire world is evidence of the supreme standard of the Studio’s work, its solidity while simultaneously taking achievements of leading world designers into practical consideration.
The concept of “universal” designing propagated by Ewa Kuryłowicz is a guiding principle pursued by APA KA. It is a set of principles respected by the company’s designers and which amount to the full adaptation of an investment to the requirements of handicapped persons.
Kuryłowicz & Associates apply AIA (American Institute of Architects) and FIDC (Federation Internationale Des Ingenieurs-Conseils) standards, taking Polish conditions, legislation and procedures into account. These established the regulations used when managing an investment process. Stefan Kuryłowicz is, in addition, the author of a document “How to proceed in customer-architect relations”, recommended by the Association of Polish Architects as the best practical principles in cooperation with an Investor.
