Woodstock revival festival in Poland

2009-06-19

The spirit of Woodstock is kept alive by Jerzy Owsiak – the founder of Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity and organizer of Stop: Woodstock. It is a rock concert held as a thank you to young Polish people for participating in the annual charity fund raising drive which finances giant health care projects for children each year.

The event is Europe’s largest open-air music festival under the banners; stop violence, stop drugs, love, friendship. It kicks off on July 31 in Kostrzyn on the Odra river right on the border with Germany.

This year’s highlights include: Guano Apes, Juliette Lewis, veteran Polish rock band Voo Voo and jazzman Leszek Możdżer. A special jubilee concert is planned for August 1 commemorating the original Woodstock'69.

Former Polish President Lech Wałęsa, the leader of the anticommunist opposition Solidarity movement, winner of Peace Nobel Prize is expected as a special guest on that day. (MP)
