Breaking new ground in medical supplies

2009-12-17

Ever since the start of the free market in Poland in 1989, Hand-Prod has had a significant impact on the development of the medical sector. More than two decades ago two enterprising men founded Hand-Prod, which was one of the first private medical companies in Poland.

Owing to the abilities of the management, their pragmatism, the ability to build a team, and above all their remarkable foresight, a company has emerged in the tough market transformation realities which now ranks among Poland’s 500 largest companies.

From the outset Hand-Prof has focused on niche medical products: first diagnostic products, then also surgical products, pharmaceuticals and products for diabetics.

Another step was a venture into the medical services segment and the decision to build a network of dialysis stations. The first Hand-Prod station in Dąbrowa Tarnowska in southern Poland was launched in 2006. Now the company owns 8 such stations that offer dialysis treatments to patients all over the country.

2008 marked a breakthrough for the company. Having joined the OneMed Group, the Scandinavian disposable products leader, Hand-Prod enriched its portfolio to include top quality products addressed to both hospitals and pharmacies as well as to the non-medical market.

The growing number of customers and product range made it necessary to streamline logistics. In 2009 Hand-Prod signed a contract for the lease of some 3,000 sq.m. of warehouse space where a modern logistical centre has been developed.

The success the company’s strategy is borne out in figures. Some PLN300 million of turnover was recorded in 2004, 475 million in 2008 and well over 500 million in 2009. Over three hundred workers employed by the firm are strongly committed to building its market position.

Looking ahead to the future, the company is going to utilize a vast potential that exists in the disposable products and disinfectants market in Poland both within the medical segment and outside it. For the first time in history, as part of the One Med Group Hand-Prod is in a position to build its future based on own brand products.

The success of Hand-Prod is evidenced by numerous awards and certificates won over the years. They testify to the company’s respect for consumer rights, free competition, as well as reliable and ethical co-operation with other market players. Hand-Prod is the winner of awards such as ‘Business Gazelle’ and ‘Reliable Company’. In 2007 it received the Publicus prize for the best firm in terms of tenders won in 2006. In 2009 Hand-Prod was honoured with the ‘Pearl of the Polish Economy’ title in the Large Pearls category.

But the success of Hand-Prod is not just about impressive figures and a multitude of awards. The company also has several spectacular educational and diagnostic campaigns to its credit. Within the action called ‘Stop the Wave of Diabetes’ 43,000 people were examined a free-of-charge, while dozens of regular screening programmes have been conducted for people with kidney diseases.

One can proudly say that the company has not just built its position in the market, but has also educated society in health matters.

1987 Hand-Prod launches the distribution of diagnostic and laboratory equipment.

1989 The firm’s offer is expanded to include surgical equipment.

1992 The company enters the pharmaceutical market with medicines used in kidney dialysis. It also adds specialist diagnostic equipment and reagents to its offer.

1999-2000 Hand-Prod organises a nationwide ‘Stop the Wave of Diabetes’ campaign, and opens one of Poland’s first self-service pharmacies.

2002 The company obtains the ISO 9001 certificate from SGS-ICS Switzerland.

2005 A network of modern dialysis stations is developed.

2007 The company receives the ISO 4001 certificate from Lloyds.

2008 Hand-Prod joins the OneMedGroup, a leader in disposable products and medical equipment supplies in Northern Europe.
