Poland’s server market dropped
Over 43,000 servers worth almost USD 212 million were sold in Poland in 2009, a study by IDC Polska shows. This represents a 34% drop in value y-o-y.
2009 was the second year when drops were noted. In 2008 however, the market shrank only by 4% as compared with 2007, wnp.pl reports.
‘The server market is a good barometer indicating the readiness of Polish companies, especially those operating in finance, telecom and services sectors, to invest. Despite their hopes, the situation of server producers was not improved by public IT projects, which were largely cut due to budget savings and prolonging tender procedures’ IDC analyst Jarosław Smulski is quoted in the communiqué.
The value of x86 servers market (working under Windows, Linux and less often Solaris) decreased by 31%, while RISC, EPIC and CISC (mainly unix and mainframe class servers) noted a drop on 38% y-o-y., wnp.pl reports.
IDC Server Tracker is a quarterly research of the server market in Poland pertaining to x86, RISC, EPIC and CISC servers.
