Medical University of Silesia launches Centre for Didactics and Medical Simulation
The Medical University of Silesia (SUM) has developed a project of a modern Centre for Didactics and Medical Simulation to be established on the campus in Katowice-Ligota. The Centre will be the only institution of its kind in Poland.
The Centre will be developed in a closed laundry of the clinical hospital. It will be an ultra-modern building where class applying simulation techniques and information-communication technology (ICT) will be held.

Advanced simulators will be used in the OR, ICU, ER, ambulance and other. The Centre will provide unprecedented possibilities of practical training, making and analyzing mistakes, increasing patient safety and team work. The Centre will also use advanced mannequins and a self-assessment room. The project also accounts for purchasing mobile cameras which will record and transmit live procedures taking place in SUM’s clinical hospitals.
ICT will be used in the multimedia hall providing access to medical databases and e-learning, magazines and scripts; self-study rooms, programming centre, multimedia lecture hall equipped also in LCD screens and 3D screening technology.
The project meets the educational needs of medicine and dentistry students, patients and employers hiring SUM graduates. It is in line with SUM’s development strategy aimed at computerizing teaching methods and providing the highest quality of education. The value of the project is estimated at PLN 33.439.285,00.
