Sting to inaugurate the first EURO 2012 stadium in Poland
The mid-western city of Poznan is the first Polish EURO 2012 Football Championship host city to complete the construction of the stadium. The official opening of the remodelled sports arena will take place on September 20. A concert by Sting is one of 78 concerts promoting his latest album "Symphonicity", featuring the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra under Steven Mercurio. The concert will also be another within eco-series “Poznan for Earth”, as Polish Market Online’s Sandra Jacobson reports.
“We are well ahead of time” Poznan Mayor Ryszard Grobelny said. “Other infrastructural projects like the modernisation of the transport network are on schedule” he assured. Adam Giersz, Polish Minister of Sport, underlined that the final effect of the preparations hinges on cooperation between the government and local authorities. “Poland is doing well with infrastructural projects. Now we need to focus on soft projects like security, business projects, financial guarantees, supervising tax-related issues and the execution of UEFA’s marketing rights” he added.
Marcin Herra, president of Pl2012, an organisation that takes care of the Euro 2012 effort, underlined that a lot of attention is being paid to the comfort of the arriving sport fans and supporting Poles’ strong identification with hosting the event.
The Poznan stadium is 213.3 meters long, 220.7 m wide and 56.16 m high; it has 4 tribunes with over 43,000 seats including 266 seats adjusted to the needs of the disabled; it has Poland’s largest 120 LED screens video displays and wi-fi.
